Not sure what to say?

Deepest condolences to Ryan’s family and friends. Please be comforted knowing how much Ryan was loved by his work family as well. Ryan and I worked together in the same capacity but his knowledge of pharmacy made him stand out from everyone. He was always happy to provide guidance whenever needed to anyone who asked. I frequently told him I’d be honored to have him as my Manager someday. Although that can no longer be a reality, I’m confident he’s still doing great things and watching over...

Will miss Ryan. He was a great guy!!!

Steve and Linda, I am very sorry about Ryan. Thinking of you and all our dear Schmutte family.

I met Ryan while in grad school at Xavier in my very first class on a group project. We shared our interest in Seinfeld reruns and still couldn't understand why we still cheered for the Bengals. We quickly became friends and he later became one of my groomsmen. I have kept every one of our text messages from the past 6+ years when you had told me about your diagnoses. I will have age appropriate stories to tell your children when the time is right. I know you are at peace with the Father...

Remember like yesterday the day he was born, and all our fun times on Duet Lane . trying to get all our kids asleep so the adults could play cards. Mom and dad adopted one of our pups (that lived her best life on Weiss Rd for Jen and Ryan) raising their beloved “Kibbles”. Sweet memories. There really are no words for Steve, Linda and Jen and his family that can take away this painful time, but know you raised one precious and fun loving son. There are not too many people that could have...

I first met Ryan when we were coworkers at Anthem Prescription, and I quickly pegged him as the quiet, scholarly type—always buried in finance spreadsheets and seemingly all business. The joke was clearly on me because he was one heck of a prankster!

One morning, I walked into the office to find “For Sale” signs plastered everywhere—with my car listed as the hot item (my car was not for sale). Ryan had even added ridiculous features like green neon lighting and a turbo...

Ryan was one of the good guys for sure. I enjoyed working with him at IngenioRx. Always a go-getter, but always with integrity and poise. To Sheri and the family, peace and strength during this time and know Ryan’s impact was far and wide.

Ryan was “the man” in our eyes. He was a good son, brother, husband, father, nephew, uncle, grandson. You name it, he had the bases covered.
He was truly a family guy and often the first to respond to an invitation – “We’’ll be there! What can we bring?” and he always showed up.
Ryan made us feel so comfortable in his presence as he valiantly fought cancer. He smiled, he joked, and he loved deeply, with both his actions and his words.
We have lost a beautiful presence in...

Ryan's Obituary

SCHMUTTE

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Ryan, 48, on Sunday, October 26, 2025.  He died peacefully surrounded by his mom, dad, sister and wife.  Ryan was the beloved husband of Sheri Schmutte; loving father and step-father of Brayden, Olivia and Annabelle; loved son of Linda and Steve; cherished brother of Jen.  He is also survived by an incredible group of friends and numerous loving nieces, nephews and extended family members.  His “shadow” dog Jackson never left his side whether it be as his work from home support animal, walking companion or napping buddy.  Occasionally the other dog, Gertie, was allowed to spend time with him.

Ryan was a true Cincinnati enthusiast!  He loved all things Cincinnati; Bengal’s, UC, Xavier, Skyline, LaRosa’s and Graeter’s.  He was born and raised a true west-sider who lived just over a mile from his parents and childhood home.  He enjoyed his time at St. James and LaSalle so much that his kids have followed in his footsteps.  Siesta Key, or as he called it “Cincinnati of the South” was his favorite vacation spot.

He took great pride in his German heritage so much so that he made it a priority to get to Germany twice!  He was a dedicated and hardworking man who used his master’s in business from Xavier to become an extremely accomplished Salesman of Pharmacy plans.  It was rare to find him not wearing something Xavier.  He loved spending time outdoors and took enjoyment in his yard, kayaking and hiking.  Other activities he enjoyed was spending time with others through golf, bowling and pickle ball.  And he cherished time with his lifelong and loyal friends.

His greatest joy, however, was his family, and he particularly treasured teaching the kids things, attending their sporting events, pool days at Chris & Jen’s, grilling and wine with his dad and lattes with his mom.

Ryan valued every moment, and memories made with his loved ones. After his terminal brain cancer diagnosis, he absolutely lived life to the fullest.  He squeezed out every moment he could!  He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed enough to have known him.

Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, November 7th at 11:00am at St. James Church White Oak, 3565 Hubble Rd, Cincinnati, Ohio 45247. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution in Ryan’s name to St. James School, LaSalle High School or Xavier University.
