Sam Lloyd Sawyer

Sam Lloyd Sawyer, 90, of Emperor Landing Road, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at his home. Mr. Sawyer was born in Chowan County and was the son of the late Tim Lloyd and Lena Copeland Sawyer. A retired painting contractor, he was a member of Countryside Church of Christ and had served in the US Navy during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Matilda Wright Sawyer. Surviving are a daughter, Judy Sawyer Dean and husband Mike; three sons, Andrew J. "Jack" Sawyer and wife Diann, Ronnie L. Sawyer and wife Harriet and Alan K. Sawyer, all of Edenton; a brother, Herman Sawyer of Spivey's Corner, NC; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, by Minister Leslie Carico. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service, and all other times at the home of Judy and Mike Dean, 100 Emperor Landing Road, Edenton.
