So sorry to all the family to hear about Dale's (Sleepy's) passing. He was always genuinely a great guy. He treated you the same if you was his teammate or his opponent. I truly enjoyed playing softball with him. He will be missed. Condolences to all the family.

To a guy Ive come to know, and weve discussed that we are more than likely cousins as both of us come from Shumate families, but I acknowledge more to be my brother. I did not know your dad but if he was even half the guy you are then he had to be something else. I love you Ru, Jenn, and good golly miss molly! My heart goes out to you and all of your family. I know your dad will be greatly missed but lets not forget that we will all be reunited again one day. Love ya brother!

I had the pleasure of working with Dale while I was a student at VT. I saw Dale at an event several years after I graduated and I was amazed he remembered me after so many years. He had the same big smile I remembered.
