I always enjoyed the time we could spend together. She had a wicked sense of humor and our gatherings were always full of fun and giggles. I will miss her.

Sandra “Sandy” Hernandez
age 61, of Hammond, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. She is survived by her sons: Rolando “Ro” Lopez and Ramon (Nelly) Lopez; precious granddaughter, Daniella Lopez; brother, Ed (Pat) Hernandez; sisters: Cindy (Manuel) Larios, Margaret Hernandez, Rudy (Patsy) Hernandez, and Katrina (Michael) Badovinac; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by her parents, Juan “Rico” Hernandez and Carmen Hernandez; brother, Juan “John” Jr. (still living, Dee) Hernandez; dearest niece, Madeline Ortiz.
Sandy was a proud graduate of Hammond Tech. She found great joy in baking, cooking, and spending time with those she loved. Her warmth and kindness were evident in everything she did. She was a woman of deep faith, known for her devotion to her church.
A devoted Chicago Cubs fan, Sandra cheered on her team through every season with pride and hope, win or lose. Her love for the Cubs was just one of many things that made her unforgettable.
Sandra was a loving and devoted mother to her sons, and a cherished grandmother, sister, and Godmother and friend. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit, strength, and love will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
Sandy will be dearly missed and forever remembered for her humor, zest of life, and unwavering love for her family and faith.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 7109 Calumet Ave., HAMMOND, IN.
Family kindly requests that friends and loved ones attend dressed in casual attire, as she would have wanted everyone to feel comfortable and at home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family in Sandra’s memory.
