You are my sunshine
my only sunshine
you make me happy
when skies are gray.
You’ll never know dear, how much I love you. Please don’t take my sunshine away.
I love you with all my heart. You are my sunshine.

Sandra “Sandy” Kay Dasgupta (nee Brown), age 76, of Highland, IN passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023, surrounded by her children. Sandra is survived by her loving children: son, Krishnendu (Lesley) Dasgupta of New Hartford, CT; daughters: Chandra (Harry) Smolen of Zionsville, IN; Lesley (Brian) Johnson of Highland, IN; seven dear grandchildren: Sovarani, Canyonendu, and Ruby Dasgupta, Hannah and Henri Smolen, Benjamin and Lydia Johnson; sister Dolores (late, Bill) Sambrookes, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Sandra is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 37 years, Purnendu “Beni” Dasgupta in 2005, her parents, Harold and Eileen Brown; and siblings Elaine Bolan, Harold “Buzz” (still living, Lorraine) Brown, David Brown, and Kathy Feuerbach.
Sandra earned her bachelor’s degree in Education from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in 1969 and later, while raising three children, received an Associate’s degree in Nursing from Purdue Calumet University, graduating 1st in her class. She was an excellent student and loved the sciences. Sandra dedicated many years of her life to being a loving caregiver for her husband before his passing.
Her love for arts was evident in her fondness for musicals and operas. Chicago held a special place in her heart, and when able, she immersed herself in the vibrant art culture and food scene that the city had to offer. Sandra was also a Master Gardener and had a fondness for crossword puzzles.
She found her greatest joy in her role as mother and grandmother. Sandra immensely loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, expressing her love and affection through delicious meals and creative baked goods she expertly prepared, sending a Halloween and Valentine box to them all every year. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and good conversation, where memories will be cherished forever.
Sandra was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother who was devoted to her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN. A service celebrating Sandra’s life will be held at 6:30 PM with Fr. Jeffrey D. Burton officiating. Services conclude at the funeral home.
