Not sure what to say?

I’m so sorry to hear this!! I knew something was wrong when she didn’t show up or call for her hair appointment today. I’ve had the pleasure of doing your mom’s hair for the last 20+ years. She was such a kind soul. Even though I’ve never met any of you or your children I know all about you. All of you were her pride and joy!! She talked about how you all took care of her after your dad passed. She was very grateful for all of your help. (She joked about how she thinks Doug comes to stay...

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Sandy was a lovely woman whose deep love for our Lord shined through her. We texted and spoke about Jesus and his blessings every chance we had. Her love of teaching and for children was quite evident in the stories she shared. She was absolutely lovely with my grandson Frankie who seemed to gravitate toward her. We were blessed to have lived behind her.

May God bless you and our family during this time of great loss.

Our sincere sympathy to your family

Sandra "Sandy"'s Obituary

Sandra “Sandy” Lee Nusbaum, 80, of Canfield, Ohio, died unexpectedly Thursday, September 11, 2025 at her home.

Born September 16, 1944, in San Francisco, California, she was a daughter of the late David S. & Ernestine R. (Watson) and a 1962 graduate of Mifflin High School. Sandy received her bachelor’s degree in education from The Ohio State University. She taught for over 40 years, loving every minute of the time spent with her students and fellow educators. After retiring, she enjoyed meeting with her friends for the Retired Teachers Breakfast and the Retired Teachers Book Club every month. Sandy was an avid Ohio State Football fan and was known to pace around the stadium if her Buckeyes weren’t winning by as much as she thought they should be.

Sandy was a Christian by faith and a devoted, loving, wife, mother, and grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and cherished every moment she was able to spend with them. In Sandy’s eyes, her grandchildren could do no wrong. She was their biggest supporter and would travel the state to attend dance and piano recitals, football games, band competitions, horse shows, archery meets, softball games, concerts, plays, and many more. It never concerned her how far away or how long it would take; she was there with a grin on her face and clapping the loudest for her family.

Surviving are her three children, Doug (Rachel) Nusbaum of Avon Lake, Ohio, Eric Nusbaum of Morrow, Ohio and Michelle (Justin) Marshall of Frazeysburg; seven grandchildren, Emily and Katie Nusbaum, Mattie and Ella Nusbaum, and Truxton, Kaleigha, and Jaxson Marshall; one sister, Diane (Bill) Hyson of Charlotte, South Carolina; two brothers, Richard (Xenia) Guthrie of San Antonio, Texas, David (Gloria) Guthrie of San Francisco, California and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by the love of her life, Craig A. Nusbaum whom she married September 3, 1966 and who died June 16, 2024; sister, Barb Guthrie and daughter in-law, Lisa (Bruner) Nusbaum.

Friends and family may call from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.

A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 6:00 pm, Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at the funeral home with Minister Sam Dunn officiating.

Sandy will be laid to rest next to her loving husband, Craig, On Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, OH 44273.
