Carol Grady Nelson passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, in Land O' Lakes, FL. Born May 15, 1944, in Birmingham, she was the daughter of Harvey and Gladys Grady. A Birmingham-Southern graduate and librarian, she most loved being a mother to Marcus and Ashley. In 1966, she married William C. "Bill" Nelson, and they made their home in Birmingham before moving to Sarasota in 1989 and later Land O' Lakes in 2006. Bill preceded her in death in 2009. Carol will be remembered for her kindness and wit, joy in sewing for her grandchildren, playing trivia, and her love of her dogs. She is survived by her children Marcus Nelson (Maria) of Boca Raton and Ashley Swink (Christopher) of Tampa; grandchildren Grady, Lilah, and Elise Nelson, and Riley and Addison Swink. Visitation: Thursday, October 2, 8:30-10:30 a.m. at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Sarasota, with a burial to follow at Sarasota National Cemetery.
