Not sure what to say?

I was there, literally-when Barbara
and Scott met each other. We were
at a local club in New London; both
she and I were greeting numerous
people. Within moments, it seemed-Barbara and Scott began speaking,
and had eyes for each other-only.
The rest, as they say-“is history”.
What an amazing 24 years they
experienced together

My heart goes out to you and your family. So sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you❤

There are no words....my heart aches for your family, and you are all in my prayers. I will always remember how we shared that Valentines's Day anniversary....and also Friday nights at Burkes. Scott always made me laugh. I loved his dark, sarcastic sense of humor! The world lost a very special soul.

Scott's Obituary

Scott Callahan, 56, of Niantic CT, passed away tragically on Saturday November 1st, 2025. Scott grew up in Quaker Hill, having been adopted as an infant by Donald and Carol (Patricia) Callahan, who both predeceased him.

In 2000, Scott met the love of his life Barbara (Birch) of Niantic, and they were united in marriage on February 14, 2001, becoming lifelong Valentines. At the time of their marriage Scott wholeheartedly took on the role of father to Barbara’s daughters Alyssa and Shelby Birch. On July 16, 2001, Scott and Barbara welcomed their daughter, Jessica Marie into the world, making her the best birthday present to both, as all three share the same birthday. Together Scott and Barbara created a home filled with lots of love and laughter for not only their family, but also for many of their daughters’ friends, who grew to look at them as second parents. Holidays and birthdays were always at their house, with Scott either in the kitchen preparing the meal or manning the grill.

Having been adopted, Scott had confided to Barbara that although he had a great childhood with loving parents and a brother, he had always felt like a “square peg in a round hole”. They discussed him searching for his birth parents, but Scott would say “My parents are my parents”. It wasn’t until he had a conversation with their daughter Jessica, when she said, “What if I have all these cousins I know nothing about and they could be sitting next to me in school” that Scott decided to search for his birth parents. None of us knew how prophetic Jessica’s comment would be when he was reunited with his birth mother Linda (Gernhard) Levine in September of 2012. Linda is the eldest of 14, which meant there were in fact, all these cousins for her to meet! But more importantly it answered a lot of questions for Scott that hadn’t made sense. He now knew where his sarcastic, dry wit and personality came from. And he has enjoyed a loving and happy relationship with his mom, half-sister, step father, lots of aunties and uncles, and cousins since reuniting with them.

Scott was multi-talented. In fact, there was really nothing he couldn’t do. He single-handedly put an addition on his and Barbara’s house, almost doubling it in size. He was everyone’s go to person for anything that needed to be built or fixed-whether it was carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or welding.

For the past 20 years Scott worked at Yankee Remodeler and had given his skill and knowledge to many projects throughout the years. He was always there to help when you needed him. Using his knowledge and skill set, he helped grow Yankee’s welding and steel fabrication department to new levels.

Left to mourn his sudden and incredible loss are his wife Barbara; daughters Jessica (Oliver Banks), Alyssa (Dillon Winkler), and Shelby (Bobby Karcher), his 5 grandchildren, who referred to him as Icoe (In Case Of Emergency) Milo Callahan-Banks, Mason and Ainsley Winkler, Savannah Birch and Maddox Karcher. Also mourning him are his brother, Kevin Callahan, his biological mother Linda Levine (Phil), and sister Rachael Levine (Nelson). He will forever leave an empty seat with his Table 7 Family.

Special thank you to Scott and Barbara’s “adopted” daughter, Aimee Starita, for all the support and love you have shown during this difficult time.

“But if we’d told you then, you might not have gone.”                                                                                                                                        Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster.
