He was a second father for many years to me, as the Thing family was a second family. My sympathies to all. He will be missed.

Scott Douglas Thing was born August 17, 1952, in Peabody Massachusetts. The second of five children, Scot grew up in Topsfield, Massachusetts with his parents, Charles Murray Thing and Shirley Leonard Thing. He is survived by his younger brother, Gary Howard, Thing; his wife, Darcy Lee Thing; and his three children, Eric Charles Thing, Christine Marie Butzbach, and Rebecca Lee Wright.
Scott entered the Airforce on September 17, 1971. He served for four years during the Vietnam War. After leaving the Airforce in 1975, Scott reunited with Darcy Walsh, the sister of his high school friend. Married for 48 years, Scott and Darcy raised their children in Raymond, NH and later, Lyme, CT. After 2012, Scot and Darcy retired and moved to Florida, returning to Gorham, NH each summer to spend time with family. After his Alzheimer’s diagnosis, Scott and Darcy moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Scott was an amazing man and father. Whether dancing around a campfire, holding his grandchildren in his arms, or dancing with his wife to Poco, Scott was a man full of life, who left behind a life full of memories and love. He lives on in the hearts of his wife, his children, his friends, and all of his family. He will never be forgotten. He will always be loved. He will be sincerely missed, until we meet him again.
Scott will be laid to rest in Topsfield, MA in June. Memorial details to follow.
