As a fellow West Pointer, Army Officer and National Park Service leader his presence in our communities will be sorely missed and I've certainly lost a brother in arms. Be thou at peace.

Sean (Patches) was one of the finest human beings I ever met. My family and I got to know him at West Point working with the rugby team. I could tell stories about how thoughtful he was, how much we loved him, but I think I will just say that he was as good a friend, as good a person, as we have ever met. We will miss him greatly and keep his memory always.

It was never Sean, it was either Flachs or Sean Flachs. There are times when faculty would gather during the day and just talk about what happened. Some time it was around a table at a cafeteria, other times it might have been in the coaches' room after a long practice or game. "Then Flachs,, .... (and another adventures would be relayed)... at 15,16, and 17 we get to see a glimpse sometimes, often just a glimpse, of what kind of man our student will be. I was a teacher lucky to get...

Obituary

Sean's Obituary

Flachs, Sean Patrick, age 40, was baptized into the hope of Christ's resurrection, Thursday, April 6, 2023, in Hubert, NC. He was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, son of Patrick Michael Flachs and the former Angela Teresa D'Arcangelis. Sean was a 2001 graduate of St. Louis Priory High School and a second-generation, 2008 graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY. Sean was a Captain in the US Army (serving from 2008-2016), deployed to Afghanistan from 2010-2011 and Kuwait from 2013-2014. Following his military service, Sean was committed to selfless service to the country, working as a facility engineer for both the US Army Corps of Engineers and the National Park Service. Sean also felt a greater calling to help lead other Veterans with finding meaning after military service, serving on multiple Veteran Fire Corps (VFCs) crews from 2017 to 2022.

He is survived by his wife Amanda Shaunessy (Flachs); mother Angela (Henry) Heroux; stepmother Lorraine Flachs; sisters Kelly Berger and Jessica Heroux (Tim); niece Kylah Covey (Israel) and nephew Kevin Berger, Jr., plus extended family, friends and classmates. He was preceded in death by his father Patrick Flachs of St. Louis, MO, his grandparents, Walter and Catherine Flachs of St. Louis, MO, and Carlo and Dora D’Arcangelis of Niskayuna, NY.

Services: Funeral Mass at St. Anselm Parish, Creve Coeur, Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Rosary 9:30 a.m. prior to Mass. Interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to Saint Louis Priory. Visitation at the FAMILY CENTER at SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway, Ballwin, Monday, April 17, from 4-8 p.m. Friends may sign the family’s on-line guestbook at Schrader.com.
