SGM (Ret) Algia's Obituary

Algia Webster Bailey, Jr. was born March19, 1945. He was born to the late Muriel and Algia Bailey, Sr. Algia was the oldest of 5 siblings. He was predeceased by Steven Bailey, Phillip Bailey and Valerie Smith. Algia was called by the Master on March 19, 2025, in Hopewell, VA.

He grew up in Hampton, VA, and attended several schools until he enlisted in the U. S. Army. Algia served 21 years and was awarded various medals and retired as Sergeant Major and had earned a Bronze Star. He served in the U. S.  Army from 1963 to 1984. Algia served as a security officer at John Randolph Hospital in Hopewell, VA. He was later employed at the Hopewell Wastewater Facility where he retired. He enjoyed going with his son to various sporting events. Algia loved entertaining family and friends. 

He is survived by his son, Algia Bailey III of Hopewell VA; brother, Chris Bailey (Sylvia} of Hampton VA; sister-in-law, Terri Bailey of Slidell, LA, and brother-in-law, Prince Smith of Hampton VA; two grandchildren, Ariyah and Jordan Bailey of Chesterfield, VA, and a host nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

The Bailey family would like to thank everyone for all act of kindness shown to the family during  the loss of our loved one.

Services will be held 3:00 P.M., Saturday, April 26, 2025 in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerso Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. Robert A. Diggs, Sr., eulogist.  The interment will be held at a later date in the Arlington National Cemetery.
