Not sure what to say?

The days that Shawn and our son spent as children, playing with toy cars and trucks, seem like just yesterday. Our family has been blessed to watch Shawn grow up, as our next door neighbor and friend, from a sweet infant to a confident young man. Our memories of Shawn will be of his ever smiling face, as well as his kindness to others.

We are so deeply sorry for your loss. Shawn was such a shiny bright soul! May his dear soul rest in eternal peace!

Shawn's Obituary

Shawn Michael Kusterer

5/21/1995 – 1/23/2023

Shawn Michael Kusterer passed away peacefully on January 23rd 2023. Shawn was born on May 21st, 1995 to Steve and Janet Kusterer in Leesburg, VA. He graduated from Loudoun County High School where he excelled in the masonry program.

Shawn loved building Lego masterpieces and playing video games. He could usually be found at his desk working on a large Lego set while a football game was on in the background. His building talents continued in the digital realm with the scale and depth of his creations within Minecraft. While his brother and family would try to keep up with him playing video games, he would frequently bail us out of difficult situations that were for him, laughably simple.

He liked to go with the flow and was kind and generous to everyone he met. Friends and family knew him as someone who would listen to them when needed and who was always willing to have a good time. He was an avid Jeff Gordon and Green Bay Packers fan and would ask “the guys” to come around every weekend to watch the NFL lineup and the weekend’s NASCAR race.

He is survived by his father, Stephen and stepmother Cathy of Leesburg, his brother Matt and his wife, Abigail and their four children (Lillian, Alex, Teddy, Lydia), his step-sister Maggie her husband, Sam and their three children (Irene, George, Felicity), his step-brother Sean Twigg, his maternal grandparents Dave and Kathie Blanchard, his paternal grandmother Nonie Kusterer,  as well as beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Kusterer, his paternal grandfather Paul Kusterer and his cousin Timothy Kusterer.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 29th from 2pm – 4pm at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, Virginia. A funeral mass will be held at Saint John the Apostle Catholic Church in Leesburg Virginia on Monday, January 30th at 2pm. Burial at the church cemetery will immediately follow, with a reception at the Fellowship Hall at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Shawn’s name to Loudoun Hunger Relief.
