Shelbie Jean was a great friend of my entire family. JR and Sharen Knapp, my Brother Dan Knapp and myself shared many memories and good times with Shelby and Teddy aka Rip, in AuGres Michigan. More like a family than friends. I always said if I died and was reincarnated that I wanted to come back as Shelbie’s dog. Based on the care she gave Wimpy dog and Spike. Lol. Thank You Aunt Shelbie for teaching all of us how to have fun at work while getting the work done! Also for teaching me all about customer service. You were the BEST teacher. Thank you for introducing me to your nephew, now my husband Mike!! You gave so much of yourself to others. I have such wonderful memories of being with you. You are such a special lady! You will be missed but remembered very fondly.

Always enjoyed going to H and S Market and getting meat and her special cases of pop. Shelby always treated me like family. Rest in peace sweet Shelby. Love and prayers to the family during this difficult time ♥

Shelbie Jean Ripperdan, 88 years old, formerly of Lapeer and AuGres, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2024 at Courtney Manor Nursing Home in Bad Axe.
Shelbie was born on July 29, 1936, to the late Harry and Beulah (King) Papke. She was married to Howard Mohme for 30 years until he predeceased her in 1985. She married Teddy (Rip) Ripperdan in 1990 and he predeceased her in 2014.
Shelbie spent many years as a business woman. She was the "S" in H & S Market in Lapeer for many years. She never met a single person who was not a "brother" or a "sister". She loved her customers, and loved spending time with her nieces and nephews. Shelbie lovingly taught all of them about business, money, hard work and kindness. She was a lover of all kinds of animals. Shelbie's only other love was chocolate and driving Rip's 18-wheeler.
Shelbie is survived by her sister Mary Ann (Terry) Hanson of Bad Axe, her sister in law Shirley Papke of Kingston, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. She was met in heaven by her parents, her brothers Charles and (Shirley Ellis) Papke, Harry Carl Papke Jr. and sister Ellen and (James) Bush.
Per Shelbie's request, cremation has taken place. There will be a graveside service on November 21, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Westlawn Cemetery in North Branch.
The family would like to thank the staff of Courtney Manor for treating Shelbie like family for several years. Also the family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff of Heartland Hospice.
