Sherry Lee Gomes passed away on December 24, 2025, at the age of 68, in Modesto, California. Sherry was born on October 22, 1957, in San Jose, California. Sherry moved to Patterson, California approximately 4 years ago. Prior to that, she resided in Longmont, Colorado. Sherry’s parents, Jerry Peter Gomes and Marsha Lee Lamb (Stephens), both predeceased her.
Sherry is survived by her siblings, Jerry Gomes, John Gomes, Julia Monroe, April Zullo, Joseph Gomes, Rosie Gomes, and James Lamb. She is also survived by her stepmom, Rose Cox and her soulmate, Douglas Payne, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and cherished friends.
Sherry was a graduate of Branham High School. She worked various customer service jobs over the course of her career, working for companies like Nordstrom, Guide Dogs for the Blind, and Lighthouse for the Blind. Her most recent job was doing tech support for Freedom Scientific, a company that specializes in technology for the visually impaired. Sherry had a talent for writing. Her dream of becoming a published author came true in 2021 when she published her first novel, Haven.
When she wasn’t writing, Sherry loved to cook, read, sing, listen to music, attend the theater, and spend time with her loved ones.
Over the years, Sherry had many guide dogs who touched her heart and the hearts of those who were blessed to meet those hardworking, amazing dogs. Although she loved all her guide dogs, there was a special place in her heart for Stephie, Bianca, and Shani.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., at the Cambell Community Center, Roosevelt Redwood Room, located at 1 West Campbell Avenue, Campbell, California.
