A cardinal visited me briefly after church and perched on the deck rail. It briefly peeked at me and then flew off. Aunt Shirley was very kind to me. She lived a full life with many friends and loved ones. God rest her soul.

Obituary

Shirley's Obituary

Shirley Ann “Shay” (Newell) Davis, 91 of Dawson (Lower Tyrone Township) passed away surrounded by Love at 4:13 PM Thursday, March 5, 2026 in the Eicher Family Home, Normalville. Shirley was born on December 6, 1934 in Lower Tyrone Township, Fayette County but her home was in Dawson, as a daughter of the late John “Wes” and Lucy Newell.

Shirley graduated from Dunbar Township High School in 1952 and married Carl Bauer Davis on December 18, 1953. She worked for Nelson Bus Lines as a dedicated school bus driver in the Connellsville District for over 40 years. Shirley was a loving mother to daughter, Lucy Ann and her baby boy, Carl Wesley who was born with cerebral palsy.

Shirley loved to travel and after becoming a young widow, she and her good friend, Ann Natale took a “Thelma & Louise” road trip across the US to California and back! She faced her fear of heights to ride the gondola to the top of the Grand Tetons Mountains in Wyoming with her daughter, Lucy and grandson, Jarad. A few years ago, she revisited St. John’s Newfoundland, Canada where Lucy was born when her husband, Carl was stationed at Pepperell Air Force Base. Shirley was a member of the Philip G. Cochran Memorial United Methodist Church in Dawson, was a Charter Member of the Dunbar Township Lions Club, and faithfully served the Connellsville Chapter #247, Order of Eastern Star.

Shirley will be sadly missed by her longtime companion, Richard Conn; her daughter, Lucy Ann and husband Gary Prinkey; her grandson, Josh Prinkey of New Cumberland, PA and her step-granddaughter, Sofia. Shirley was blessed to have many friends who loved her dearly. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Bauer Davis (1986); her son, Carl Wesley Davis (2016); her grandson, Jarad Prinkey (2021); her two brothers, Glen and Jerry Newell; and most recently, her baby sister, Doris “Jeanie” DiSanto (June, 2025). Shirley’s family are deeply appreciative of her family of angels at Eicher’s Family Home, and the nurses and staff of the Amedysis Hospice Care
