🌹In Loving Memory of Mrs. Shirley Ann Montaque Gregory

Sunrise: March 27, 1938  Sunset: September 21, 2025

With grace in her steps and faith in her soul, Mrs. Shirley Ann Montaque Gregory ascended into eternal rest on September 21, 2025, from the Waterview Senior Living Rehabilitation Facility in Hampton, Virginia. At the resplendent age of 89, her earthly journey concluded, and her heavenly homecoming commenced.

Born on March 27, 1938, in the tranquil heart of Gloucester County, Virginia, Shirley was a radiant light in the lives of all who knew her. She was the cherished daughter of the late Willie Montaque and Irene Jarvis Montaque, both of whom welcomed her into eternity with open arms.

From a tender age, Shirley’s heart belonged to the Lord. She professed her faith early in life and became a devoted member of Gleanings Baptist Church, where she grew in the spirit, strength, and sisterhood of her church family.

A woman of quiet strength and unwavering dedication, Mrs. Shirley worked with diligence at Graham and Rollins Seafood Company, but her greatest vocation was found in the loving sanctuary of her home. As a homemaker, she created a space that was both refuge and celebration—where laughter echoed, meals were shared, prayers were whispered, and love was unshakable.

Shirley found joy in the simple luxuries of life: a spontaneous shopping trip, a joyful family dinner, the warmth of conversation, and the enduring power of kinship. Her elegance was effortless, her kindness boundless, and her presence majestic.

She was united in holy matrimony with the late Charles Gregory, and together they built a lineage rooted in love. From this sacred union came six beloved children: Susie McMillan, Carolyn Gregory, Thomas Gregory, Marvin Gregory, Lester Gregory, and Kenneth Gregory (Melanie), each a reflection of her wisdom, tenacity, and grace.

Her earthly light may have dimmed, but the brilliance of her memory shall endure. She leaves behind a treasured legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a tapestry of siblings, cousins, and dear relatives, and a community forever touched by her spirit.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, @ 12noon at Nickelson-Cummings Funeral Home 4304 Victoria Blvd, Hampton, VA 23669.
