Shirley's Obituary

Shirley Ann Werline, age 85 of Tipton County and formerly of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at the home of her daughter following and extended illness.  She was born September 6, 1936 in Elwood, the daughter of Arthur and Hazel Mae (Stookey) Atwood.  Shirley married Charles O. “Sonny” Werline on March 10, 1990, and they shared19 years of marriage together before his passing in 2019.  She worked in the polishing and fabrication department of J. Lewis Small Company in Elwood for over 30 years and retired in 2001.  Shirley and Sonny were formerly active in the Elwood Moose Lodge.  She truly enjoyed working in her yard and decorating her home.  She and Sonny were known for keeping things immaculate, and they had received the community pride awards for their homes in both Elwood and Tipton.  Shirley enjoyed fishing, dancing, canning vegetables, and working jigsaw puzzles.  She and Sonny also enjoyed several memorable trips to Las Vegas.  More than anything, Shirley’s grandchildren were the joy of her life.  Her family finds comfort knowing that Shirley and Sonny are now reunited in Heaven together.

Shirley’s family includes 8 children, Tina (Dan) Roe of Goldsmith, Pam (Kenny) Lehman of Elwood, Barney (Jill) Cole of Elwood, Celeste (Dean) Rinks of Crawfordsville, Jeff (Tisha) Lynas of Crawfordsville, Greg (Sharon) Werline of Anderson, David Werline (Christy McCool) of Elwood, and Kathy (Randy) King of Kokomo; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Grace Werline of Elwood, Jean (Leo) Conwell of Anderson, Susie (Dave) Hoffer of Anderson, Linda Werline of Elwood, and Bonnie Werline of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; 9 siblings, Hazel Mae Underwood, Vera Jean Heady, Eugene Atwood, Mary Shipley, Harley Atwood, Max Atwood, Carl Atwood, Loretta Harris, and Larry Atwood; and 2 grandchildren, Josie Lynas and Colin Winings.

A funeral service celebrating Shirley’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 14, 2022 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Scott Blaylock of Life Church officiating.  Cremation will follow the service.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 to 2 pm prior to the funeral on Monday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Health precautions for the safety of the family and visitors are greatly appreciated.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital through the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
