Shirley Ann Whiting, age 83, of Spencer, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, September 26, 2025, after a brief illness.
She was born on October 29, 1941, to the late Denver and Verbie King.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Whiting; her grandson, Gabriel Whiting; a step-grandson, Tyler King; her brothers, Basil King, Vaughn King and Benny King; and her sister, Sharon Farley.
She is survived by her three sons: Kevin Whiting, Randy (Donna) Whiting, and Gary (Lisa) Whiting. Shirley was a beloved grandmother to six grandchildren: Brandyn (Corie) Whiting, Amanda (Janus) Balatbat, Devin Whiting, Gara Whiting, Rustan (Kaitlin) Whiting, and Cole Whiting. She also leaves behind five step-grandchildren: Jocelyn (Luke) Hamilton, Ali Cunningham, Alyssa Whiting, Jacob Fields, and Derek Fields.
Her family includes eight great-grandchildren: Lily Whiting, Brock Whiting, Ariella Domigpe, Clara Balatbat, Thea Balatbat, Kyson Boles, Westan Whiting, and Stetsan Whiting. She is also survived by seven step great-grandchildren: Brooke Hamilton, Eli Hamilton, Lainey Hamilton, Hayden Grether, Charlie Grether, Octavia Fields, Aria Fields, Acie Fields, and Johnny Adkins. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Sammie (Charlotte) Drake.
Shirley enjoyed quilting, tending to her flower beds, and shopping with her friends. She cherished family gatherings and valued the time spent with her special friend, Joyce Anderson. Shirley was a lifelong member of Boggs Fork Community Church and shared a special bond with her little dog, Buddy.
A funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2025, at Boggs Fork Community Church, Spencer, with Rev. Russell B. Stump officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will immediately follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, is assisting the family with arrangements.
