My deepest sympathy for Shirley's family. She and my mom remained close until my mom's passing. Mom always told us how Shirley was doing with her fight against cancer. What strength! I laugh about it now, but as a kid, I remember coming into the house where my mom and Shirley would be talking. I would come in an complain about some boo boo or other slight against my person. Shirley would always tell me, "you'll live." Not what a five year old wants to hear but on reflection, pretty good...

Shirley M. Zeilenga, nee Olgers, age 82, of Lansing, IL, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 6, 2019. Loving wife of the late Thomas J. Zeilenga and the late Gerald R. Heerema. Devoted mother of Wayne (Theresa) Heerema, Brenda (Bryan) DeYoung, Luann (James) Bulthuis, Gayle (Edward) Ritzema, Karen (David) Rule, and Earl (Mary) Olgers. Proud grandmother of 12; great-grandmother of 9. Dearest sister of Margaret (Melvin) Dokter, Carol (Carl) Dulmes, Sheila (James) Jones, and the late Beatrice (late Dwayne) Nyenhuis. Kind aunt to many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents Lambert and Isla Mae Olgers.
