Sigmund Kneppel of Kinnelon, NJ passed away in Haskell on April 11, 2013 at the age of 88.
Sigmund was predeceased by his loving wife Doris of 65 years. They were married in New York City on January 24, 1948.
He is lovingly remembered by his son David Kneppel and daughter-in-law Lucrecia Kneppel of Bloomingdale, NJ and his daughter Debra Aniano and son-in-law John Aniano of Allentown, NJ as well as his three grandchildren Samuel, Amanda and Rebecca Kneppel.
Sigmund was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 25, 1924. He graduated from Seward Park High School in Manhattan in 1941. He enlisted in the army and served in France and Germany as a medical technician during World War II, earning battle stars for Normandy and Brittany. Upon his return, he completed his bachelor of science degree at Brooklyn College, graduating in 1947.
He was employed by Norda Essentials, a flavoring and perfume manufacturer in Boonton, NJ as a chemist, creating and improving perfumes and flavorings. He retired in 1986 after 30 years. After retirement, he enjoyed exercising, reading and stamp collecting.
Viewings will be held at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home in Pompton Plains on Monday, April 15 from 2 – 4 pm and 7- 9 pm with a service at 8 pm. A private burial will be held at the William C. Doyle Veteran's Cemetery in Arneytown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
