Sixto Rivera Sr. passed away December 24,2021 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years of marriage, Miriam. Together they raised 5 sons Sixto Jr., Jose Enrique, Juan, Robert, William and 1 daughter Miriam Ivette, Step-sibling Janet. He played a big part in the lives of his 8 grandsons and 6 granddaughters. He was also alive for the birth of his 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by many loving relatives here in the U.S. as well as Puerto Rico. Sixto was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on June 8,1942, the son of Hipolito Rivera and Antonia Perez.
His love for his family knew no limits. He lived for his family and he worked hard for his family. Retirement didn’t slow him down any. He would often be seen getting fresh Italian bread and newspaper or picking up his grandkids from school or giving them money to buy candy from the Sunset Park discount store. He loved to smile and had a great, wry sense of humor. He had inside jokes or phrases with nearly everyone and loved to deliver a good punch line.
His house was always open to friends and neighbors. His hospitality preceded him. All could come over to his home, expecting good food and a great time. He was a very well respected member of his community, in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, and in Ponce, Puerto Rico. His family and friends all benefitted from his generous and warm spirit. Sixto Rivera will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His loss happened too suddenly and it is hard to grasp that the Alpha of the Rivera clan is now sleeping. His children, children in law and grandkids will always keep alive the lessons he ingrained in us by example- of being warm and generous hearted person.
