Not sure what to say?

The things I appreciated about Stan:
One who cared for others
One who welcomed newcomers
One who practiced till he excelled
One who did not boast about his talents
One who was a goofball at times (and often told inappropriate jokes)
One who chose fun over winning (you exemplify strategy 1)
One who told truth with love
One who is my mixed doubles partner for pickleball tournaments and there will not be another like you.
I will so miss you Stan, the...

What can I express? Stan made me laugh, gave great hugs, never flinched under any circumstances and was dependable. My heart is broken. Stan, you will be missed.

I called him Stan, the man he called me Genie even though my name was Jeanette. We always teased each other at pickle ball on Thursday nights. I will always remember him wearing that bright orange hat around the courts. He made everyone feel so comfortable, even though we didn’t have a clue as to what we were doing Rest in peace my friend, Jeanette Simmons

The Palys family is in our hearts and prayers at this time.

Stan the Man you are loved and will be missed by everyone who ever met you. I enjoyed playing pickleball with you almost every Friday for the past few years. Your Rule 1, Have Fun, will forever be known as Stan’s Rule. Thank you for your friendship and your fellowship. You made a difference!

Stan will be dearly missed, but more so remembered for his great personality, friendliness and willingness to share the love of different sports to the community. My son and I will truly miss him!!! Prayers of peace and comfort to his family.

My Sincerest and deepest condolences to the Pakys family. It saddens me so deeply. Rememberingall the great times we've had. Stanley helping my father coach little league and doing announcing and scores at our games. Also being a great person . R. I. P. STANLEY. PRAYERS AND WARM THOUGHTS TO ALL OF YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS. ❤❤❤

As a newcomer to the Club Waka crew, Stan made me feel welcome and quickly extinguished my fears about playing with more seasoned, albeit social, athletes. He will be missed immensely but I know his memory will be kept alive through stories, jokes, and tossing techniques (who knew there was a right way to hold a cornhole bag?!).

To his family and closest loved ones, my deepest condolences.

Stan, has been an honor to know you and play cornhole together since last year. I really going to miss you. To the family my most sincere condolences on this hard times, I will be praying for you all.

Stanley's Obituary

Stanley Nicholas Palys, 65, died Sunday, August 17, 2025. Born in Panama City, Panama, he was the son of Stanley Nicholas Palys and Mary Sue England. He was raised in Pennsylvania, but spent his early childhood years in Japan, where his father traveled to play Major League Baseball. He went on to study at Virginia Tech where he received his degree in aerospace engineering. He ultimately settled in Hampton, VA and was a longtime engineer at North Wind in Newport News, VA. In his words, however, his most important job was being a father.

A consummate athlete, he took pride in being a lifelong runner and completed numerous marathons and ultramarathons. He was, most recently, the league manager for several CLUBWAKA sports where he excelled in pickleball, cornhole, volleyball, and bowling—he was all-in on anything he set his mind to. He was also an avid reader, geocacher, and found immense joy in traveling. His favorite destination—which he called the happiest place on earth—was Aruba, where he spent several weeks each year.

He will be remembered for his dependability, willingness to help others, kindness (even to strangers), quick wit, sarcastic humor, and keen knowledge of all-things math and numbers.

Stan is survived by his daughter, Allison Palys; his mother, Mary Sue England; and his siblings, Kenneth Palys and wife, Denise, Michael Palys and wife, Margaret, Stephen England and wife, Elisabeth, and Patricia Palys. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

A formal service for Stan will be held at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home on August 28, 2025 at 4:00pm. An informal celebration of his life will be held at Sly Clyde Ciderworks following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family through their GoFundMe linked below. Alternatively, he would have loved for everyone to continue to uplift the community through organized sports, specifically the Hampton Roads CLUBWAKA league.
