I am so sorry to hear about Steve. I remember he was my Ferris wheel riding buddy and the only one that could keep me calm on one. Many found memories of family camp up at Okoboji. Love and hugs

I think the first time I met Steve was playing softball. Only they called him ping. I didn’t get it until I hear him bat, sure enough “ping”. He was always full of fun and a truly nice guy. I enjoyed the time we had at Bible study. You can be reassured Jesus has him in his arms now.

I always enjoyed talking with Steve, in whatever point in our lives that we were - in school, across a counter in an implement dealership, or just driving by his house in Ruthven. He was a typical "Zitterich" nice person, and I'm sure will be missed.

Steve was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Terril, Iowa. He received his education in Terril, graduating from Terril Community School in 1967. While in high school, Steve participated in sports. Following high school he continued his education at Augustana College.Steve was united in marriage to Deborah Goodale Dotson on December 29, 1984 in Spencer, Iowa. They raised two children, Adam and Katie.Steve worked for Archie Umbrell at Standard Oil where he drove a tank wagon. He then went to work at Halsne International dealership and later Harms Implement. After both of these closed, Steve began working at Spencer Municipal Utilities where he was employed until his retirement in 2014. For two years, following his retirement, Steve was a teacher’s assistant at Fairview Elementary School.Steve enjoyed playing slow pitch softball and basketball until his mid forties. The night tournaments got to be too late! He also enjoyed golfing, in his later years, with his grandchildren and friends. Steve loved to “ride his lawn mower.” His favorite pastime was spending time with family, especially talking guns with Adam, taking many special trips with Katie and being with his grandkids. Steve was always a wonderful example as to what a husband, dad, and grandfather should be.Steve passed away Thursday, January 13, 2022 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 72. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Deborah Zitterich of thirty seven years; two children, Adam (Kelly) Dotson of Spencer, Iowa and Katie (Justin) Campbell of Spencer, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Alyssa (Adam) Johnson, Caitlin, Hannah, Emily and Drew Campbell, Cedie, Angelo and Dominic; brothers, William E. (Gretchen) Zitterich of Ames, Iowa and Joel P. Zitterich of O’Fallon, Missouri; sister, Zoe Ann (Richard) Roark of Creve Coeur, Missouri; sister-in-law, Deanna Hart of Spencer, Iowa; Grandpa Tom Dotson of Spencer, Iowa; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and many friends.In death, Stephen is reunited in heaven with his parents; grandparents; sister, Lavelle Zitterich; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Deane and Verda Goodale; sister-in-law, Dorinda Goodale; extended family, Carolyn Dotson, Steven Dotson and Jeana Joenks; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.Arrangements by Martin-Mattice Funeral Home
