Been missing you grandpa and you’ve taught me so much and I enjoyed going to the funeral home with you and learning so much I want you to continue resting in peace with your wife and telling nice stories thank you for attending my sporting events

Miss this man and good discussions we used to have he is missed but back with the love of his life and God as well he taught me skit a lot and how to be a true man and dress nice and as a lil boy taking me to the funeral home introducing me to the owner and teaching me proper respect

To the Saunders family, sorry to hear about the going home of your father, he is in a better place the Lord let you keep him for many years but decided it was time to go home, may you have the peace beyond all understanding and the comfort knowing this.

To the family, you have been blessed, we have been privileged to ever had been in the company of one fine fellow. Great conversation and a great smile at all times. Always enjoyed seeing him in the barber shop or any were else. A man of good reputation and well spoken of. To God be the glory n praise .

Sterling's Obituaries

Sterling R. Saunders Sr., 93, of West Chester, PA, passed on Thursday, April 20, 2017.  Born December 20, 1923, in Chestertown, MD (Kent Co.), he was the son of the late Maude Briscoe Pierce and George Saunders. 

 

He was educated in the Kennett Square Area School District.  As a young man, he  enlisted in the U.S. Army.

 

For many years, he worked for A. Duie Pyle, Inc. where he received honors for driving thirty-eight years with no accidents and no citations.  In addition, he served on the Safety Committee for over ten years, retiring in 1988.  Doing his retirement, he worked part-time driving for DeBaptiste Funeral Homes, Inc.

 

He was a member of Galilee U.A.M.E. Church of Avondale, PA for the past eight years.  He was also a member of VFW #898-Carter Miller Johnson, lifetime member of Nathan Holmes American Legion Post 362, Past Master and member of Hope Chatham Lodge #40, Prince Hall, and past president of The Star Social Club of West Chester.

 

Sterling loved the Christmas season and loved decorating during this time. He also loved dancing, especially “bopping”, and he loved to bake rolls and make rice pudding.  He also enjoyed sports with the Dodgers baseball team being his favorite.

 

Two daughters, Pamela Saunders and Khalima Washington; three sons, Sterling R. Saunders Jr., Craig Saunders and Gregory Saunders; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Cecelia Rochester and a host of relatives and friends survive him.

 

In addition to his parents, and wife Gloria Saunders, one son, Charles H. Glasco, precedes him in death.
