Steve was born in Abilene, Texas on September 24th of 1942, to Dallas and Lota Faye Murphy, While many went to college, Steve preferred to be on the back of a horse. He spent most of his time roping, riding, and praying, at least until it no longer paid the bills after his children, Curtis and Carroll were born. He later gained two more children, Tonya and Tim, when he married the love of his life, Robyn Murphy, on July 11th of 1980.
Steve was many things; a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, and a true god-fearing man. His family was his greatest treasure and he loved spending time with all of them. If he was not with family, or crafting crosses, he was watching classic westerns with a dog at his feet, at church, or visiting friends.
Steve knew no stranger and welcomed all to his table, a desire to make sure nobody ever felt alone. He was known for his smile and laugh, but also his uncanny ability to “stir the pot”, going so far as to carry a spoon in his pocket from time to time. He took great pride in his ability to lift up others in the darkest of times. To Steve, family did not require blood and his light is not only cherished but will be greatly missed by all.
