Steven Lee Flansburg

Steven Lee Flansburg, of Mio (formerly of Metamora), passed away in his home at the age of 56. Steve was born to Robert and Carol (McCarty) and after the death of his father, his step-father Ronald King. The middle child, Steve grew up in Oakland County with his older brother and sister Robert Flansburg and Annette (Rives), and younger brother and sister, Daniel Flansburg and Michelle King. Some of Steve’s fondest memories were spending his summers in the Oxford Countryside with his Grandma Nettie and many, many loved cousins and neighborhood friends. 

Steve met his wife, Karen (Wheatley) and moved to Metamora where they would raise four daughters until moving to Mio in 2005 where they bought and attempted to restore what was formally known as the North Star Resort. In business for 15 years, the couple made many more memories, friendships, and impacted many lives. 

Steve loved his years driving gravel trains as a truck driver, being outdoors, hunting, and passing on traditions to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed meeting new people, being outside, and hosting barbeques and bonfires for his built community of friends and family. He leaves behind a legacy of “Treat them like family.” 

Steve is survived by his older brother Robert Flansburg of Mio, younger brother Daniel Flansburg of Lapeer, “baby” sister Michelle King of Oxford; his daughters Ruth (Justin) Wood, Elizabeth (Tony) Roberts, Robin (Theodore Metzler) Flansburg, and Stevie (Dylan Higgins) Flansburg of Mio; grandchildren Dominic, Jozlynn, Maci, Emmitt, David, Alexander, James, Hazel, Max, and Clayton. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Flansburg, mother Carol King, step-father Ronald King, wife Karen Flansburg and granddaughter Marie Flansburg. 

Steven will be cremated according to his wishes. The family plans to hold a memorial and details will be released when available.
