Steven's Obituary

Steven “Steve” Henley, age 72, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025. He was born on June 15, 1953, the son of the late Virgil Henley and Merle Henley. In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his brother, Tracy Henley.

Steve devoted 33 years of faithful service to Hubbert Field, where he worked as a civil engineer alongside the fire department, maintaining fire alarm systems throughout the base. It was work he genuinely enjoyed, and he took great pride in doing it well.

In his younger years, Steve was an outstanding basketball player and was offered a scholarship to continue playing beyond high school. He chose instead to serve his country, proudly enlisting in the United States Army, where he served honorably for three years.

Steve was a devoted Alabama football fan, deeply enjoying the traditions of the Crimson Tide and sharing that passion with family and friends. He also loved gardening and took great pride in his vegetable garden. His swimming pool behind his home was another source of pride—carefully maintained year-round. That pool was a place of deep meaning, where Steve baptized many of his grandchildren and patiently taught them how to swim.

Known for his strong work ethic, Steve was the kind of man who woke up every morning with a list of things to do and found joy in accomplishing them. Above all, however, nothing mattered more to Steve than his family and his faith. His unwavering faith in Jesus Christ sustained him through many health challenges. He fought the good fight, kept the faith, and finished the race.

Steve was a loving and devoted husband, dad, and grandfather. His grandchildren affectionately knew him as “Papa”.

Steve is survived by his wife, Tracy Henley; sons, Jason Henley and wife Maggie, Jon Henley and wife Ashley; daughter, Becky Trombetta and husband Tony; brothers, Charles Henley, and Billy Henley and wife Sandy. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Alyssa, Ashtynn, Izzy, Lily Reese, Lexie, Alex, Aubree, and Ansley.

Graveside services for Steven Henley will be held Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Beda Cemetery, with Jerry Nelson officiating.

Steve Henley leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, diligence, and love that will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew him.
