Buster represented the very best of Gruver in every way. His dedication and service to the community literally knew no bounds. Buster’s illness was unexpected and took him much too early. Our deepest condolences to Krista and his entire family.

Steven Michael "Buster" Davis, 65, of Gruver, Texas, passed away July 3, 2025, in Spearman, TX. Rosary will be on July 6, 2025, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spearman at 7:00 p.m. By special permission of Bishop Zurek and in a spirit of Christian charity and unity, Catholic funeral mass will be celebrated at the Gruver Methodist Church July 7, 2025 at 10:00a.m. Burial arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. of Spearman, TX.
Buster was born on October 16th, 1959, in Perryton, Texas, to C.A. Davis and Gerry O'Brien Davis. He graduated from Gruver High School and earned a bachelor's degree from West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas. He married his wife, Krista Stedje of Gruver, in 1993.
Buster Davis has been a lifelong Gruverite with a pride for this community. He has served locally as mayor for 17 years. The city council, EDC, Lions Club, and other civic boards have benefited from his wisdom and financial acumen. He served regionally on the board of the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission. Buster ended his 37-year banking career at Panhandle First Bank in Spearman. Some of his favorite times were cooking for Lions Club Track Meets, Gruver Holiday Basketball Tournaments, and Gruver 4th of July celebrations with his dear friends. Buster Davis was an exceptional man with a quick wit who was a pillar of strength for his family. He happily added proud grandpa to his resume this past year. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, uncle, friend, and acquaintance, exceeding expectations at every role. He was the guy so many sought for counsel. Often, he had exactly the answer you needed in a conversation that stayed between you and him. He was a leader in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spearman, an example of faith and service. Buster had deep Catholic roots and a profound love of the Rosary.
Buster succumbed to a fierce but quick battle with cancer, but won the battle of a life lived for Christ, arriving in Heaven, greeted by friends & family, free of pain. Our mayor, our friend, will forever be remembered with a beautiful legacy he has left behind. Well done, good & faithful servant.
Buster is survived by his wife, Krista, children, Michaela, and husband Joseph Grzelakowski of Amarillo, Texas, Blaise and wife Julia Davis of Gruver, son Luke Davis, and daughter Jobi Davis of the home. One grandson, Robert Davis of Gruver, was a delight to his "Pops". He also leaves behind one sister, Barbara, and husband, Paul Stavlo of Gruver, two brothers, Bob and wife Cathy Davis of Gruver, Wayne and wife Brenda Davis of Canyon, Texas, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Buster was preceded in death by his parents, C.A. and Gerry Davis; his brother, John; and his sister, Christine.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Hansford Hospice & Lloyd Looper Scholarship Fund.
