Steven's Obituary

Steven (Steve) Clyde O’Rorke, age 76, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, at Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City, Michigan.

Born on June 8, 1949, in Manistee, Michigan, Steve lived a life defined by quiet strength, generosity, and deep devotion to his family. He was known for his gentle spirit, quick wit, and the warmth he brought to every room he entered.

A proud long-time resident of Manistee, Steve leaves behind a legacy of passion, dedication, and service to his community. As a youth, he was deeply involved in the Boy Scouts, where he developed a lifelong love of learning, leadership, and the outdoors. A graduate of Manistee High School, Class of 1967, Steve excelled in both basketball and football, laying the foundation for his enduring enthusiasm for sports.

Steve’s professional career included time with Martin Marietta and Dana Corporation, where he was respected for his integrity and strong work ethic. His entrepreneurial spirit later inspired him to open Pik-a-Flik, a video rental store in downtown Manistee that became a local favorite and community gathering place.

Steve’s interests were as diverse as they were deep. He had a strong passion for classic muscle cars and took great joy in his Corvette. He also enjoyed collecting coins and spent countless hours researching genealogy and preserving family history for future generations. A passionate student of Civil War history, he was captivated by the battles, stories, and lessons that helped shape the nation.

His love of sports extended into the community as well. Steve proudly coached the Manistee High School freshman football team, along with several recreational baseball, softball, and basketball teams. He was also a devoted supporter of the Michigan State Spartans and never missed an opportunity to cheer them on.

Steve is survived by his three children: Kellie O’Rorke of Denver, Colorado; Steven

(Amanda Cote) O’Rorke of Gilberts, Illinois; and Michael (Jessica Justus) O’Rorke of Clarkston, Michigan; as well as his three beloved grandchildren—Quinn, Gabriel, and Margaret O’Rorke.

He is also survived by his sister, Colleen O’Rorke of Yorkville, Illinois, and her children, Richard (Elizabeth Falbo) Elliott and their daughter Addison of Yorkville, and Courtney Elliott of Phoenix, Arizona.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Donna and Clyde O’Rorke, and his loyal Golden Retriever, Bo.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee, where family and friends will gather to celebrate Steve’s life and legacy with Rev. James Bearss officiant.  The family will be at the funeral home one hour prior to time of service to receive friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the Manistee High School Athletic Department and mailed to Manistee High School c/o Manistee Athletic Department, 525 12th St, Manistee, MI 49660.

Steve will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
