Stuart A.'s Obituary

Stuart A. Moore Sr. b.k.a “Sam” was born on November 24, 1962, giving the family so much more to be thankful for on Thanksgiving.  His parents, Karen and Arthur Moore Sr., have preceded him in death and surely have welcomed their baby boy back into their arms.  His siblings, Arthur Moore Jr. (children: Alex, Patrick, Arthur III, Brittany, and Sandra Moore), Megan Moore, and Jarvis Moore are still present in this world and mourn the passing of their brother.

Sam attended high school at the well regarded De LaSalle High School, where he lettered in track, wrestling, and shotput.  While in high school, he also taught himself to play chess and led the school chess club.  His brother, Arthur, has fond memories of being taught this game by his big brother.

He graduated high school in 1980 and chose to continue his education at Bradley University on a track scholarship, where he majored in Communications and pledged Alpha Phi Alpha.  Sam was a proud Alpha Phi Alpha man in thought, word, and deed; he was a dedicated member of the Epsilon Kappa chapter.  Sam also cultivated his love of music as a DJ for late night parties that culminated in his lifetime love of house music.  He graduated from Bradley with a degree in Communications in 1984.

Even though Sam had a gruff exterior to many - to all who knew him, he was a teddy bear who loved children and dogs.  He dedicated 30 years of his life to serving his community as a DCFS investigator.  In this line of work, he supported many children and families to get on a path to a better life.

Personally, Sam was a strong father who took care of and raised his namesake son, Stuart Moore, Jr also known as Little Sam or Stu (mother,Frances Mims) and his beautiful daughter Jennifer “Jen” Eddings (mother and wife, Deborah Moore), who he loved and adored.  In his later years, he also was a presence in his step-sons Jarreau and Jayce Sims’ life.  He was even happier to be a proud grandfather to Samantha (Stuart Jr); Jayla and Sierra (Jennifer); Alexander Sims (Jarreau); and Brayden Sims (Jayce).  They will all miss Sam dearly.

Sam was married twice to women who brought great joy into his life.  His first wife, Deborah Moore, preceded him in death.  His current wife, Joyce Sims-Moore, mourns his loss deeply and will remember their life together fondly.  He also leaves behind his furry companion, Fuji, who he spoiled until the last day of his life.

Sam leaves behind a plethora of family and friends who will miss his quiet presence and comedic commentary on life.
