Sue's Obituary

Eutina Sue (Miller) Shill, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend died March 29, 2026.  Funeral services will be on Tuesday, March 31,2026 at Gruver Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Donald Ward officiating, assisted by Angela Grotegut.  Arrangements are under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Sue’s parents, Roy Lee Miller and Eva Gertie Miller, both deceased, were humble, hardworking farmers who raised 6 boys and 2 girls outside Tahoka, Texas.  Despite their meager, challenging life during the Dust Bowl days, Sue always described her childhood as one of love and joy.  Sue was a consummate caregiver and friend to her siblings – all who called her Sis.  At the time of her death, she was survived by one brother, Milton Miller (and his wife Geneva) and one sister, Donna Brooks (husband Neely Brooks Jr., deceased) all from Tahoka, Texas.  Sue is preceded in death by her husband of twenty-two years, Robert Shill of Gruver, Texas, and five brothers: J.T. Miller (and his wife Mary Jo), Jack Miller (and his wife Nema) and Wilfred Miller (and his wife JoAnn), all of Tahoka, Texas,  R.L. Miller (and his wife Pat) of Clarksville, Texas, and Ed Miller (and his wife Pearl) of Coleman, Texas.

For those of us who called her Mother, Tonni Yanke (and her husband, Mike) of Gruver, Texas, Brenda Fielding (and her husband, Don) of Plano, Texas, and Ron Antalek (and his wife, Beverly) of Spearman, Texas, she was a nurturer, coach, confidante, cheerleader, teacher, comforter, protector, and loving friend.

Sue’s greatest joy was being a grandmother and great-grandmother.  She spent many hours entertaining her 7 grandchildren: Erica Salas (husband Wes), Tessa Grotegut (husband Derik), Beth Schenk (husband Nathen), Abbi Messer (husband Miles), and Mattie Williams (husband Lance), John Antalek, and Micah Antalek (deceased).  Sue also loved spending time with her 14 great grandchildren: Phoebe and Paige Salas; Gracee, Reese, and Jace Grotegut; Jax, Ryker and Sailor Schenk; Fletcher, Gray, Scout, and Flynn Messer; and Harper and Heidi Williams.  As their Nanny/Granny Sue, she represented a steady source of fun, comfort and love. She spoiled them rotten and was always in the stands watching their sporting events, hosting their sleepovers, and helping with homework. She was their best UIL study buddy!

For all of us who loved her, there is a huge sense of loss. Yet, words cannot express the gratefulness we have for her presence in our lives.  She made so many sacrifices to make sure those around her were cared for.  We are so lucky to have had her attention and love.

Sue grew up a devoted Christian who loved the Lord with all her heart. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions, shaping her kindness, and sustaining her through both joyful and difficult times. She lived out her beliefs daily, showing Christ’s love through her selflessness and loving care for others. Her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of her Savior.

If you are considering a memorial, please donate to Hansford Hospice, 707 Roland St, Spearman, Texas 79081.
