Susan's Obituaries

Susan Marie Williams, of Roseto, PA, passed away peacefully at the age of 72 at Bedford Court in Silver Spring, MD.

Sue was born to the late William James and Anna (Policelli) James. The middle of three children, she was preceded in death by her younger brother, Robert. She graduated from Bangor High School in 1972 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from East Stroudsburg University in 1976, becoming the first person in her family to earn a college degree.

Susan dedicated 33 years to teaching in the Bangor Area School District, primarily third grade, but also first and fifth grades, retiring in June 2010. Over the course of her career, she was recognized by Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and was known for bringing creativity and joy into her classroom through special projects, particularly in geography and history. Her sons often smiled when former students would tell them that “Mrs. Williams was my favorite teacher.” Teaching was more than a profession for Sue - it was her calling.

After retiring and selling her treasured home in Roseto, she moved to Leisure World in Silver Spring, MD, where she spent the past seven years close to her son Scott and his family - especially her cherished grandchildren, Aurora and Owen.

Sue was a beloved friend to many and was known for her warmth, generous spirit, and ever-present smile. She could always be counted on to lend a helping hand. She proudly supported the Bangor Public Library and, in recent years, was active in the Garden and Environmental Club and other clubs at Leisure World. Through her church and the local Kiwanis Club, she crocheted hundreds of scarves, gloves, and winter hats for children in need, quietly sharing kindness in tangible ways.

Proud of her Italian heritage and her deep roots in Roseto and Polly Acres, Sue found her greatest joy in family. She loved preparing homemade cavatelli and meatballs for family dinners and preserving cherished memories through her meticulous scrapbooking. She delighted her children and grandchildren with her signature chocolate cake with peanut butter icing, as well as her chocolate chip and Christmas cookies. She was an enthusiastic Baltimore Orioles fan, enjoyed spirited games of Yahtzee, and tirelessly practicing French on Duolingo.

Sue is survived by her older brother, William James, and sister-in-law, Kathy James, of Nazareth, PA; her two sons, Scott Williams of Silver Spring, MD, and Jeffrey Williams of Nashville, TN; her daughter-in-law, Cathleen Williams; her beloved grandchildren, Aurora and Owen; and many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

Funeral services will be held, Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 11 AM at the Ruggiero Funeral Home, LLC, 126 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Pen Argyl. There will be a visitation beginning at 10 AM until time of services at the funeral home.  Interment will conclude services at the Roseto Presbyterian Cemetery, Roseto.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered in Susan’s name to the Salvation Army of the Lehigh Valley (https://give.salvationarmy.org/give/339602/#!/donation/checkout).

A memorial service will be held at the Inter-Faith Chapel (3680 S. Leisure World Blvd., Silver Spring, MD 20906) on Friday, March 20 at 10:00 am.
