Suzanne “ Mama Sue” De La Riva

Age 74, of Hammond, IN, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Monday, January 13, 2025. She is survived by her loving children: Joe De La Riva, Tom (Michelle) De La Riva, Amy (Tera) De La Riva, Ted (Brittney) De La Riva and Kristen (Dominic) De La Riva; grandkids: Angela and Ashley De La Riva; many nieces and nephews; precious pet Sherlock “Kitty Boy.” Preceded in death by her dearest husband of twenty-nine years, Joseph; parents: Ted Bielat And Lillian; brother, Thomas Bielat; dear niece, Jennifer Lunsford; and beloved dogs: Penny, Griffin and Cooper.

Suzanne was a proud graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, class of 1968. Her kind spirit, warm heart, and tireless devotion to her family and friends made her a beloved presence in the lives of all who knew her.

Suzanne worked in the mailroom at Standard Oil, where she was known for her impeccable organization and cheerful demeanor. It was there that she met her beloved husband. A lifelong Cubs fan, she delighted in cheering for her team through every high and low season, and cried when they won the 2016 World Series.

Weekends found Suzanne at the local farmer’s market, savoring fresh produce and sharing her infectious joy with fellow shoppers. Her green thumb and love of flowers brought color and life to her yard. She had a rare gift for making everyone feel at home and was a mother figure to everyone she met, always ready with a listening ear and warm hug.
