Ted passed away Monday afternoon, November 28, 2016, at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Theodore “Ted” Louis Luetgers was born on March 16, 1925, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Theodore and Adeline (Karow) Luetgers. He grew up near Lake Minnetonka and attended school in Mound, MN, where he graduated from Mound High School.
Following his graduation, Ted began attending the University of Minnesota where he met Shirley Brown. After a short time at the University, Ted enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country during World War II as a medic. After earning his honorable discharge on April 23, 1946, Ted returned home to Minnesota.
On December 28, 1947, Ted was united in marriage to Shirley Brown at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fairmont, MN. Being the romantic that he was, Ted took Shirley ice fishing on their honeymoon up north near Cook, MN. Ted and Shirley made Fairmont their home and were blessed with three children, Curt, Eric, and Joy. Ted worked for many years as a well driller and later ran Brown’s Pump Service until his retirement at the age of 62. Following his retirement, Ted found great joy in helping in the apple orchard.
Ted loved life in the country and found great joy in being in the outdoors. In his younger years, he spent countless hours out fishing and loved a good day of hard work cutting down trees. Ted had a green thumb and enjoyed tending to his garden and glad’s. He also enjoyed his Morgan horse.
Ted was a member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ, a life member of the Martin County VFW Post #1222, and was a 70 year member of the Chain Lake Masonic Lodge #64.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Shirley Luetgers of Fairmont, MN; children, Curt Luetgers and his wife, Terri of Fairmont, MN, and Joy Omuhundro and her husband, Ralph of Woodbury, MN; daughter-in-law, Susan Luetgers of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Travis Luetgers and his wife, Kristen, Krista Laidig and her husband, Christopher, Kristjon Luetgers and his wife, Jenna, Justin Luetgers and his wife, Ashley, Jason Omohundro and his wife, Amber, and Erin Wunderlich and her husband, Mark; great grandchildren, Isaac Laidig, Ayden Luetgers, and Myra Laidig; as well as many other family members and friends.
