Terese Maria Gassert, Cloquet, MN, died June 24, 2024, one day after her 71st birthday, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital with her family by her side. Terese was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Ida Gassert and her infant sister Monica Mary.
Terese graduated from the College of St. Catherine in 1975 and spent one year teaching elementary school before going into food service management at several colleges. In 1991 Terese and her brother Peter started Duluth Lawn and Sport. Terese's smile and kindheartedness defined her approach to business, and she will be missed dearly by many lifelong customers and the Duluth Lawn and Sport family.
Terese's generosity was remarkable. She knitted about a billion yards of yarn over the years into blankets, shawls, mittens, socks and other items that family and friends will treasure for years.
Terese loved her trees, flowers, and shrubs and was proud to have spent her last years finishing the gardens at her house.
Terese faced her death with grace, dignity, integrity and courage. Knowing she had only a short time left, Terese spent her final days checking up on her nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews whom she lovingly referred to as her “grandchildren." Terese's hospital room was filled with love, laughter, and a joyful birthday party on her last day of life.
Terese is survived by brothers John (Deb), Jim (Maureen), Jerome (Mary Beth), Paul (Mona), Peter (Liz), Mark, and sisters Mary (Rob) Peick and Monica (Ed) Keyport.
Nieces and Nephews: Stephanie (Scott), Ann (Trevor), Andrew (Brandi), Emily (Duane), Anthony (Kari), Lance (Brittany), Michael, Matt, Samantha, Christopher (Chelsea), Stephen (Heather), Michael (Samantha), Cassandra (Ian), Anne (Casey), Sarah (Jeffrey), and Nicholas (Natalie).
"Grandchildren": Archie, Louie, Geno, Meredith, Thomas, Colbie, Everlie, Wyatt, Morgan, James, Hugo, Mason, Hailey, Emmitt, Gracie, Riley, Chase, Jaxon, Hannah, Nora, Lincoln, Isla, Owen, Audra, and Noah.
A private ceremony will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to the American Heart Association and/or The Blackwoods Blizzard Tour.
