Thelma's Obituary

Thelma Karen “Kay” Winkler loving mother, wife, grand and great grandmother, 82, of Ardmore, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025.

The family will receive friends between 6 and 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls. Graveside services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at Waurika Cemetery with Rev. Richard Rust, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.

Kay was born on March 17, 1943 to the late Millard Earl and Lillian Maybell (Sumpter) Sloan in Globe, Arizona. At an early age, her family moved to Waurika, Oklahoma. Kay graduated from Waurika High School where she participated in basketball and on the cheerleading squad. Kay was challenged to a drag race by a guy, Bobby Winkler, whom later became the love of her life. The couple married on December 2, 1962 and they spent the next 57 wonderful years together before his passing in 2019. Kay worked for many years at Levi Strauss as a seamstress and later her and Bobby owned many grocery stores, the most popular one was the Bluebonnet grocery in Wichita Falls, Texas. She loved her family, especially being “Nan” and “Nanny” to all the grand and great-children. This special lady will truly be missed by many family and friends.

Along with her husband and parents, Kay was preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in law, Burt and Lillian Winkler; two sisters, Dimple Darlene Boon and Laura “Billie” Lillian Chesley; four brothers -in-law, Michael Winkler and wife, Carolyn, Jerry Don Winkler, Charles Perkins and Jimmy Hawkins; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Winkler.

She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Kay Blevins and husband, Steve; three grandchildren, Lynda Maddox and husband, Craig, Stephanie Thomas Piazza and husband, Trey, and Steven Taylor Blevins and wife, Anne; ten great-grandchildren, Kallel Maddox, Wyatt Thomas Piazza, Mason Thomas Piazza, Steven Thomas Blevins, Ian Thomas Piazza, Zeke Maddox, Tiffanie Blevins, Serena Maddox, Rylee Ellis and Ruby Ellis; also, survived by brother, Eddy Sloan; two sisters-in-law, JoAnn Perkins and Brenda Hawkins; and a brother-in-law, Rickie Winkler and wife, Ginger and longtime family friend Wayne Horton
