Thomas J. Cheney, 64, of Waterloo, Iowa died Monday, September 23, 2013 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. Memorial Service: 10:00 A.M. Friday, September 27, 2013 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, Iowa with Deacon Jim Patera officiating.Visitation: 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday and after 9:00 A.M. Friday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein.Inurnment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.Thomas Joseph Cheney was born June 3, 1949 at Marshalltown, Iowa the son of William and Mercedes (Murphy) Cheney. He attended the Oelwein High School at Oelwein, Iowa. Tom later graduated from Rochester Community College at Rochester, Minnesota. In June of 1968, he was united in marriage to Christine Nus at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. They later divorced. Tom was employed over the years at Chicago Northwestern Railroad, John Deere, Krensky's and Tyson's. Thomas is survived by his 2 children, Jody Lynn Cheney of Mason City andTod Michael Cheney of Oelwein;3 grandchildren, Alyssa Cheney, Matthew Bohl and Taylor Bohl all of Mason City;6 great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Rylee, Makiah, Kylee, Kiara and Khloe;2 sisters, Judy (Dale) Recker of Arlington and Mary Dawn (Steve) Peterson of Waterloo;5 nephews, Jody, Jamie, Scott, Brian and Steven;1 aunt, Charlene Murphy of Algona; and 2 cousins, Lynn and Kevin.He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; parents; and a brother at infancy.
