Our sincere condolences to Shirley, Paul, Tim, Mark and the family. Mr. Claar was a wonderful man that I had the privilege to meet and see over junior and high school years through 4H with Mark.

Thomas E. Claar, age 76 of Bad Axe, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 16, 2025. Tom was born in 1948 in Sherwood, Michigan to the late Virgil and Alice Claar.
Tom attended Glen Oaks Community College in Three Rivers, Michigan.
Tom married Shirley M. Sidener in 1969. Tom and Shirley moved to Mt. Pleasant where Tom attended Central Michigan University. After graduation, Tom began his teaching career in Bad Axe as a third grade teacher. He taught third grade for 18 years and was well liked by his students because he was known as the puppet show teacher. After 18 years in third grade, he taught computer science to elementary students until he retired in 2005.
Tom was the proud father of three sons; Paul (Sharon) IL, Timothy of Bad Axe, and Mark (Brook) of North Carolina.
Tom was an avid sports fan. He was a referee and secretary of the Huron County Hockey Association. Tom also refereed high school soccer games, and was the number one fan of Bad Axe Hatchets boys and girls soccer teams.
Tom and his wife Shirley were avid square and round dancers for over 40 years. They were members of Northwood Stompers camping club.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Mike Claar and Larry Grueter.
Tom is survived by his wife Shirley; his sons; his brother Steven (Sheila) Claar; sister Vikki (Mark) Mills; sister-in-law Sandra Summey; grandchildren James Claar and Stephanie Claar, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 18, at 1:00 at St. Hubert Parish/ Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe, with Fr. Yesu Mulakaleti officiating.
Memorials may be offered to the Huron County Hockey Association in Tom’s name.
