Thomas Collins Murphy JR – better known as Tom or Murph - husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, Uncle, and friend passed away surrounded by his family Thursday, March 27, 2025.
Tom, the son of Thomas Sr and Margaret (Peggy), brother to Robert, Patrick, and Mary Elizabeth, was born on July 1st, 1947, in St. Louis, MO. He was the first-born grandchild on both sides of his family and was lovingly referred to as Bibbi Coo Coo by his maternal grandmother. In grade school, Tom played soccer and sang solos from the altar at the Christmas Novenas. He was a proud graduate of St. Louis University High School and St. Louis University, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Theta fraternity.
For most of his professional life, Tom worked at Ford Motor Company, where he was deeply admired and respected by everyone who worked for him and with him.
Tom and Susan were married on October 10, 1992. They created a beautiful life together, focused on spending time with family, friends, and their golden retrievers Maggie, Miley, and Sam. A lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, Tom loved following every season and wearing his personalized jersey. During their 18 years in Blacksburg, VA, Tom and Susan were season ticket holders of the Virginia Tech Hokies football team and often traveled around the country to catch the big games. Visiting their home is a walking tour of pictures and memorabilia, each room weaving the rich tapestry of their time spent with loved ones and their many adventures.
Tom is survived by his beloved bride Susan, son Daniel (wife Kimberly), daughters Christine (husband Robert) and Megan (husband Matthew). He was immensely proud of his grandchildren Benjamin (wife Amanda), Alyssa, Katie, Nicole, Ryan, Jack and Carol-Jane, and his great granddaughter Charlotte (daughter of Ben and Amanda) and his honorary grandchildren: nephew, Craig (wife Malorie) and nieces Jennifer (partner Adam), Stephanie (husband Justin) and Toria (husband Eric).
