Thomas James Paolino, 76, Millersville resident, died on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, under the care of Mercy Hospital. Thomas was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, October 14, 1948, to Thomas Andrew and Mary Margaret (Errera) Paolino. Thomas graduated from Churchill High School in 1966 and received his bachelor’s degree in education from Clarion College. After college, he moved to Annapolis, Maryland where he began his 30-year teaching career with Anne Arundel County Public Schools. He served three separate terms as President of the Teacher’s Association of Anne Arundel County. He married Catherine Westcott in 1971 and were married for 28 years, until her passing in November of 1999. They had two daughters, Dennison and Amanda. The family moved to Pasadena, Maryland in 1975 where Thomas lived until 2011 when he moved to Millersville, Maryland. Thomas and Catherine also dedicated their time and home by sponsoring Midshipman from the U.S. Naval Academy; many of which he has remained in contact with. He especially enjoyed his Poker Fridays, where once a month he and his friends met and played. It was something he rarely missed. And finally, his world was complete when spending time with and spoiling his four grandkids, Jordan, Sydney, Andrew, and Colton. His kind and giving nature will be greatly missed by so many.
Thomas is preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He is survived by his two daughters, Dennison Marie Steele (Timothy) of Chesapeake, VA and Amanda Paolino Taylor of Powder Springs, GA; his two brothers, Timothy “Tim” Paolino (Dee) of Monroeville, PA and Richard “Rick” Paolino (Patty) of Pittsburgh, PA; and his four grandchildren, Jordan Thomas Steele, Sydney Catherine Steele, Andrew Vincent Westcott Taylor and Colton Westcott Taylor.
Family and friends may gather for a memorial gathering, Saturday, November 9th, 1:00pm - 2:30pm. Memorial service to follow immediately, 2:30pm. Interment private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to: St. Jude Children's Hospital and/or a charity of your choice. https://www.stjude.org/donate

So very sorry to learn about Tom. He and I served simultaneously as Presidents of our respective education associations (Tom in Anne Arundel and myself in Carroll County). Tom was a great guy and a terrific advocate for teachers. During my first term as President, he gave me much needed helpful advice and it continued through the years. We shared many trials and tribulations together, as well as many laughs at the various conventions. My sister was teaching in Anne Arundel and I suggested to him that he should get her involved in the Association. Tom did just that and she and I became known as “the Viking Queens”— somewhere I have an old photo of Tom wearing a Viking headpiece (as I said, lots of laughs). Such a wonderful friend and colleague Please accept my sincere condolences for Tom’s passing.

Tom was a great friend. I remember many, many laughs at the teacher's conventions, meetings and workshops. He always loved referring to my sister and I as "the Viking Queens" - made him laugh every time! I will miss him and his caring nature. RIP Tom....

Tom was a good friend and cohort during our teaching days. We served on the TAAAC Board of Directors when Tom was the president. We also went to numerous teachers' conventions with him. Not only was Tom a good friend, but he was also a wonderful union president who always looked out for the classroom teacher. We will miss him.

Tom was a good friend, a Theta Xi fraternity brother, and a patriotic American. He loved his family and his Country. He was one of a kind and will be greatly missed. My condolences to his family.
