Not sure what to say?

Sharon: I am sad to learn about your loss. Tom’s positive attitude and sense of humor made him a wonderful person to be around. Judy and I met you and Tom on Jekyll Island. Every year we went to Jekyll we would check to see if the Shpakows had arrived. Judy and I had many happy hours playing bridge with you and Tom. I always looked forward to playing golf with him and competing with him on the short game practice area. The world has lost a great deal with the passing of Tom.

sorry about your loss, he was our school principal. he was a very nice man.

Sharon: I just found out on Facebook that Tom had passed away. I enjoyed played bridge with you and Tom; he had a nice sense of humor. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sure he will be sadly missed but you were blessed to have each other for 60 years.

I hesitate to say he was a great man for that means he truly gone. And, for a man that was so incredible and loved so greatly, that weighs so heavily on my spirit. My grandfather was the cream of the crop. The best of the very best. Each person that stood in his presence was drawn in with his natural gift of making you feel like anything was possible, that you were beyond special, and that you had an undeniable purpose. He was pure inspiration. We were blessed by you and to be with you...

Mr. Shpakow was my principal at Brendel. Even though I was a very young girl I have memories of him. He always stood by the office as the kids left for the day; smiling and interacting with us. One day I was pretty upset because I'd missing my bus home and I remember him being there for me and getting me calmed down and, of course, making sure I got home ok. My condolences to his family. I truly hope that he knew how many young lives he touched in his career.

Tom and I started teaching together at Kosciuzko school in Hamtramck 1958. Played basketball at Wayne StateUniv. Had many good times. Tom rest in peace You were a very dedicated person

I met Tom thru the Opinion Leaders Program and the breakfast I would attend. I would also run into him at the Flint Elks during his golf rounds. I was impressed with his sincere interest in those people around him. A more positive person like him are few. I'm thankful for the opportunity to have known him. My condolences to your family.

Sharon, Tanya, Laura, Tom & Steven and your extended family, I am so sorry for your loss! He was one of the special ones and I am extremely blessed to have known him at such an early age! God Bless!

I played hundreds of rounds of golf with Tom and a finer man I never met!

SHPAKOW, Thomas, Jr. - Of Grand Blanc, age 84, passed away with family by his side, after a battle with cancer, Thursday, June 15, 2017.

Thomas was born March 26, 1933 in Hamtramck, Michigan, son of Elise and Thomas S. Shapakow. Tom lived life to the fullest, always thinking of others and how he could make a positive difference in this world. During his career at Grand Blanc Schools, as an Elementary Principal, he looked forward daily to working with students, staff and parents. He considered his job right up there with that of a pro baseball player! Tom never met a stranger, tried to be a blessing to everyone he encountered, with an end result of making others feel special. Likewise, Tom was attentive to the people in all the various roles he fulfilled; as a son, brother, student, soldier, husband, father, uncle, grandpa, golfer, bridge player, writer, cartoonist, avid reader, friend, singer, teacher, mentor, neighbor, Christian, role-model, colleague, cheerleader, coach and mostly as our hero...yes...DAD was OUR HERO and the wind beneath our wings!
