Thomas Michael Smith, 81, of Stoneham, passed away Saturday morning, August 16, 2025, at HCA Hospital Northwest.
A gathering of family and friends begin at 5:30 with a presentation of Police Honors at 6:00 p.m.. Wednesday, August 20th, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11323 CR 304, in Stoneham. A parish rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 21st at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Edward C. Kucera, Jr. as the celebrant. The rite of committal will follow in St. Joseph Church Cemetery.
Thomas was born September 23, 1943 in Houston to Albert Michael and Theresa Marie Andryan Smith. He joined the Houston Police Department on November 7, 1962 as a Clerk I, assigned to the Traffic and Accident Division. On May 25, 1964, he became a Police Cadet, member of Class #30. During his tenure as an officer with the department, he was assigned to the Traffic and Accident, Jail, and Narcotics Divisions. Thomas retired on March 29, 1991 and on December 2, 1991, he rejoined the department as an Administrative Specialist, and also served as an Criminal Intelligence Analyst. During this tenure he was assigned to the Narcotics Division, retiring on March 1, 2003.
Thomas married Swanda Blake and they settled in Stoneham over 25 years ago. Thomas enjoyed living full time in the country after spending so many years as "weekenders". Thomas spent much of his time working his garden and plants and took time for fishing. A longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Thomas volunteered on serval committees over the years.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents. two sisters, Frances Marie Harris and Patricia Ann Noskrent and daughter-in-law, Cynthia.
Survivors include his wife Swanda Smith, children Michael Smith and Tracy Smith Morris and husband Mike and 5 grandchildren along with two sisters, Mary Eleanor Andrews and husband Gary and Pamela Jeanne Coleman, numerous other relatives and a great number of friends.
