Tommy was my cousin Anna Mae’s oldest son, but he was actually a few months older than me, more like a first cousin. We’d see each other at Boesch family events, particularly at his grandfather Willie Boesch’s (the original mapmaker) camp on the Lake at Little Woods. The boys our age would busk for nickels at Carlson’s grocery and bar next door, singing along with jute box tunes while rapping rhythms on beer cases.
