Travis's Obituary

Travis Ray Caldwell Sr. also known as “Ray Boy” was born on May 5, 1949 and the seventh born, to Travis M. and Irene Caldwell. At the time of his birth the family lived in the community of Aubrey where Ray received education and shared in childhood memories along with thirteen siblings.

From an early age Ray not only learned the value of a hard day’s work, he loved it. His story of farming began many years ago when his grandfather came in a covered wagon and settled in the Buckhorn community. The Caldwell Farms continued through his father and then on to Ray Boy who remained dedicated for 60 years. A humorous note to his love of farming. . .  sometimes on his way to school, Ray would lay down in the mud just for a reason to return home. He finally got his wish and in time became well known in the community for his farming success.

Ray enjoyed the many blessings that came throughout his life as the father of three children with his wife Irene. He took great pride in working beside them on the farm as he did with his father.  In 2008 the family experienced the loss of his second wife Carolyn, and in 2010 the loss of his daughter, Amanda.  In time Ray was given the opportunity to share in companionship again with Irene Russel.

Like most young men growing up in the Southern Delta, Ray enjoyed the sport of hunting. In his preferred seasons, deer or squirrel were usually a favorite on the family table. Ray also liked the simple things in life and enjoyed dancing a step or two from time to time. Knowing the importance of a relationship with his Saviour Jesus Christ, Ray was a longtime member at the Gospel Light House Church in Moro. He served as a trustee and loved the fellowship with his church family.

On October 6, 2022 at the age of 73  Ray  passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in his journey by his parents, Travis M. and Irene Heritage Caldwell; wife, Carolyn Caldwell; daughter, Amanda Lynette Caldwell; one great grandchild, Daniel Carter III, brother, Thomas Caldwell; sisters, Mary Hamilton Holmes, Margaret Wheeler, Donna Strode and Veronica Caldwell.

Survivors include his son, Travis Ray Caldwell Jr. and Jena of Moro, daughter, Mary Rachel Caldwell of Moro, siblings Gary Caldwell and Kay of Wheatley, Wayne Caldwell, Trish of Dumas, Hazel Self of Kentucky. Annie Green and Howard of Nashville, TN., Alma Catlett and Keith of Marvell, Linda Fisher and Benny of Hackett, Rita Davenport of Moro, Tereasia Davenport of Monroe, eight grandchildren, Joshua Caldwell, Shannon Perry, Marshal Caldwell, Jacob Free, Jordan Free, Jackson Free, Trenton Caldwell, Decoda Caldwell and two great grandchildren, Evelyn Perry and Mason Perry.
