Guest Book

Not sure what to say?

He let me hunt with him on his family land, always friendly and I enjoyed visiting with him. Always friendly and new everybody.

My cousin Dickie was always a larger than life character. He could ride anything, manage the farm, and with his brother and sisters, he made the summer vacations we spent at Aunt Ethels and Uncle Van and Aunt Helens the happiest times of my childhood.
My wish is that he is now at peace - and still riding Sugar and fishing in the old pond.
All love and prayers going out to Cheryl and to the Roach family. Love, Debbie - second cousin, granddaughter of Evan Roach and daughter of...

A great man and friend!

So sorry for your loss. We will miss chatting with him when came to get hay. Robert, Phyllis, Isaac and Michael Moore

Dickie was a joy to be around. He will be missed. Always loved visiting with him when we were at Danny Roachs hunting camp. Dickie would always stop by to say hello and visit. Cheryl, we know you will miss him. You will be in our thoughts and prayers., as well as Dickies entire family. Love, Glen and Carol

So sorry to hear about Dickie. We went through BHS together. Would often see Dickie when eating out at Gonzalez in Bernice. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Connie and Janice Nell. God bless and comfort you.

Soldier Salute Standing Spray

Really enjoyed spending time talking with Dickie at the camp, auctions, and flea markets. Good friend and avid outdoorsman. He will be missed.

So sorry Dickie left this earth too early. He and I spent grades 1 through 12 together at Bernice High School, and our paths crossed from time to time thereafter during the years. Always a smile, always optimistic, always a good word. Rest In Peace, my friend. And Gods grace to Cheryl and other family member today and in the days ahead. In my prayers.

Van Richard "Dickie"'s Obituary

Van Richard “Dickie” Roach, Jr. passed away on Friday, April 3, 2020. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the Weldon Cemetery in Weldon, La. Bro. Johnnie Adkins from Bernice United Methodist Church, where Dickie was a member, will be officiating.

Dickie was born on December 25, 1948 to Van R. & Helen Ulmer Roach in Bernice, La. He lived most of his life here, where he graduated from Bernice High School and Louisiana Tech in Ruston, La. Following his education, Dickie joined the U.S. Air Force where he attended Flight School and served with the Missile program. He always loved the outdoors and was so proud of his Roach heritage on land homesteaded by his grandfather and great-grandfather. Hunting and fishing near Corney Creek running through his family property was a great joy for him. Oh, how he loved to visit and talk, never meeting a stranger.

Dickie was preceded in death by his grandparents, John A. & Bessie Flurry Roach and Enos & Marie Ulmer Strahan; brother, Dennis Lane Roach; and his parents, Van & Helen Roach.

He is survived by his life partner, Cheryl Hyde of Jonesboro, La.; his sisters, Connie R. Pope (Norman) of Stonewall, La. and Janis R. Neel of Doyline, La. He is also survived by his nieces, Bryn P. Gouge (Lee) of Shreveport, La., Jamie Rigsby of Evergreen, Co., and Nikki R. Blondin (Justin) of Dubach, La.; and his nephews Tim Pope (Scarlet) of Shreveport, La., Ryan Rigsby (Melinda) of West Monroe, La.; and ten great-nieces and nephews. Dickie loved dogs and was preceded by his first Akita, Terra, and survived by his second Akita, Lady Bug, whom he was trying to get home to see.

The family would like to thank those who called to support and cheer Dickie up while in the V.A. Hospital.
