Vasile Pechenuk

          The family of Vasile Pechenuk sadly announces his passing peacefully on August 14, 2019 at the age of 75.  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years Luba, his son Michael and his wife Monica, his daughter Natalie and her husband Christopher; also by his beloved grandchildren Joshua and Michael Pechenuk and Sofia and Tatiana Sihpol.

            Vas was born in Romania and came to America through Ellis Island with his parents, Akelina and Wasyl Pechenuk in 1950. He attended Barnard Brown Elementary School and Hartford High School. He then went on to earn an Associate Degree in Accounting.  Vas eventually became a Senior Analyst at Travelers where he worked for 44 years before retiring in 2004.

            Vas’s greatest hobby was watching his grandchildren growing up. He attended most of their sports games, school concerts, and school programs. He especially loved the the momentous family trips taken over the years.  Vas was an avid Boston Red Sox and UConn Women’s Basketball fan. In his quieter moments he was a numismatist and a superior word jumble solver.

            Vas’s family extends its gratitude to the staff of the St. Francis Cancer Center in Hartford for all their support and kindness during Vas’s treatments.  Also, they are especially grateful for the home hospice care given Vas by the phenomenal staff from McLean Home Care & Hospice of Simsbury.

            In lieu of flowers, you may make a memorial donation in memory of Vas to: The Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd, Newington, CT 06111 or the Cancer Center at Saint Francis Hospital, 114 Woodland St, Hartford, CT 06105.  Viewing will be held on Sunday, August18, from 2:00-4:00 PM at the Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, CT.  The funeral service will be on Monday, August 19, 11:00 AM at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, 453 Fairfield Avenue, Hartford CT.  Please click the 'Guestbook' tab to the left to share a memory with the family.
