Veda's Obituary

Veda Mendenhall Evans, age 77, passed away on February 13, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Southaven, Mississippi.

Born on January 18, 1949, in Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Mary Alice and John Robert Mendenhall. Veda was a devoted member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church and lived a life marked by faith, dedication, and love for her family and community.

She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from the University of Georgia and faithfully served for many years as the Director of Weekday Education in Oxford, Mississippi. Through her work, she touched the lives of countless children and families, leaving a lasting legacy of kindness and guidance.

Veda cherished time spent with her beloved husband, children, and grandchildren. Her greatest joy was her family, and she was a constant source of love, strength, and encouragement to each of them.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dr. Marty Evans, Jr.; her daughter, Mary-Elizabeth Beard (Chris) of Yukon, Oklahoma; her sons, Marty “Tres” Evans, III (Shellie) of Union, Mississippi, and Matthew Joel Evans (Kimberly) of Columbia, Tennessee; her brother, Robert Mendenhall (Linda) of Newnan, Georgia; and five grandchildren, Charlotte, John Dalton, Kaylee, Ryan (Leandra), and Abby. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Alice and John Robert Mendenhall.

A private family graveside service will be held Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 9:00 A.M. at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chris Beard, Dr. Marty Evans, Jr., Marty “Tres” Evans, III, Matthew Joel Evans, Robert Mendenhall, and Mike Slay.

Mrs. Veda’s Homegoing Celebration will be held Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 5:00 P.M. at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, with Dr. Marty Evans, Jr., Bro. Tres Evans and Bro. Mike Slay officiating.
