Vera Mae Bannen

Vera Mae Bannen, 88 years old, of Chesterfield, Mo. Surrounded by loving family; died peacefully March 14th, 2026 at 9:30 p.m. Vera patiently awaits the resurrection and coming Kingdom of heaven.Born May 17th, 1937 in Rockford IL to Andrew & Norma (Hollenbeck) Schmitt. Vera graduated from East Rockford High School.  She married John Bannen of Rockford IL, in 1959. She was married for 52 years until John’s passing in 2011. Together they started a family of four in 1961. Vera was determined to mold her young family and home around love, empathy, faith and education.     Vera was known for her warm and genuine smile. Always a good listener, and able to offer sound advice. A soft spoken and gentle woman who faithfully attended Christ the King Lutheran church in Florissant, and later Holy Cross Lutheran church in Creve Coeur. Vera was an impeccable dresser; her secret to looking good…always add some color. She loved sewing, crocheting, and quilting. Vera was an outstanding homemaker and entertainer. She loved to plant flowers, and was involved in many clubs and organizations, like the neighborhood quilting and garden clubs.   Vera is survived by her four children and grandchildren; a loving mother of David Bannen, Carole and (Tony Vierling), Paul and (Carolyn Morales) Bannen and Cindy and (John Wood); dear grandmother of Tucker, Tia, Nicholas and Caroline.   In spite of the numerous health issues Vera faced, she never gave up hope that she would one day get better.
