Vera's Obituary

Mrs. Vera Elaine Larrimore Hooks, 89, of Mullins, went to be with her Lord during the early hours of Saturday, May 24, 2025, while at MUSC Mullins Nursing Center, following a period of declining health.

Ms. Vera, daughter of the late Clarence Valentine Larrimore and the late Ruth Maybell Capps Larrimore, was born on August 14, 1935, in Horry County, South Carolina. Ms. Vera grew up and lived around the Horry/Marion counties, eventually settling in the Mullins area. While in Mullins, Ms. Vera was employed with Anvil Knitwear, where she was a Quality Control Inspector for nearly 35 years. Following retirement Ms. Vera could not sit still so she entered the service industry, where she waitressed at Pingley’s Restaurant for twenty years respectfully. She loved people and Pingley’s afforded her the opportunity to meet and make lots of friends.

With Vera, her family was her life, she loved them more than life. She raised two daughters and spoiled her grandchildren and great and great great grandchildren, and loved her extended family wither brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Vera was a diehard Country Music fan, you could always bet WKML was on in her house when you visited. The only time the music would be turned down was when her Soap Operas were on, especially The Young & The Restless, that was Victor Newman time, no interruptions. Vera was a solid Christian woman; she loved her Lord and thanked Him daily for everything provided her.

Mrs. Hooks is survived by her daughter, Toni Hooks Richardson and her husband, David, of Marion; her grandchildren: David (Cindy) Harrelson of Elkin, NC, Bo Harrelson of Mullins, Jeffrey Richardson of Marion, and Walker (Brooke) Richardson of Mt. Pleasant; her great grandchildren: Jordan (Stephanie) Harrelson of Boomer, NC, Joshua (Chloe) Harrelson of Elkin, NC, Jacob (Cassie) Harrelson of Dobson, NC, Brett Harrelson of Mullins, McKenzie Harrelson of Lumberton, NC, and Luke Richardson of Gilchrist, OR; 3 great great grandchildren, a brother, Gene (Dianna) Larrimore of Tabor City, NC; her 3 sisters: Elwood Rabon of Aynor, Peggy (Al) Padgett of Charlotte, NC, and Corrine Simpson of Conway; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Larrimore of Fayetteville, NC; and several nieces and nephews; and her beloved caregiver of 11 years, Wendy Davis.

Ms. Vera was predeceased by her daughter, Judy Dianne Causey, 2 brothers, Willie Larrimore and Frank Larrimore, and a sister, Lucille Brown.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 27, from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. at Cox-Collins Funeral Home of Mullins.

Mrs. Hooks funeral service will follow in the Chapel of Cox-Collins at 11:00 A.M., with the Reverend David Harrelson officiating.
