Not sure what to say?

Family of Verlyn,
I was a classmate of Verlyn's and remember Verlyn as a quiet, gentle young man. He always had a kind smile to share and sometimes a funny joke!!
We are sorry for the loss of your brother. Our deepest sympathy to your family.

Verlyn's Obituary

Verlyn A. Fodness,76, passed peacefully on January 3, 2024, at the Diamond Care Center.

Verlyn A. Fodness, a cherished soul who embodied kindness and humility, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love and fond memories. Born on June 6, 1947, in Canton, SD, to Arnold and Bernice, Verlyn led a life full of simple joys and unwavering dedication.

Though Verlyn never married, his life was enriched with many loves, reflecting his open heart and affable nature. He had a profound appreciation for the great outdoors, often finding solace and adventure in hunting, which allowed him to connect deeply with nature. A man of simple tastes, Verlyn took great pleasure in the timeless stories and rugged landscapes of old Western movies, which he watched with an unwavering fascination and a twinkle in his eye.

Verlyn's professional life was marked by hard work and commitment, as he devoted many years to Morells Meat Packing Plant. His colleagues knew him as a man of integrity, always ready with a smile and a helping hand. Despite the demands of his job, he never lost his gentle demeanor and remained a beacon of positivity and warmth.

Among his personal treasures were the antiques he collected — not the grandest or most expensive, but items that spoke to his soul and connected him to the past. Each piece in his collection had a story, and Verlyn cherished them all, finding beauty in their simplicity and history.

In his final years, Verlyn was blessed to be under the care of the compassionate staff at Diamond Care Center in Bridgewater, SD. He often spoke of the staff as angels, whose kindness and care brought immense joy and comfort to his life. Their dedication made his final days as peaceful and happy as possible, and he made sure to express his deep gratitude for their exceptional care.

Verlyn's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him. He is survived by his sisters, and numerous cousins.

He will be remembered as a happy, kind, and humble man, who touched lives with his gentle spirit and warm smile. As we bid farewell to Verlyn A. Fodness, we carry forward the lessons of love, simplicity, and gratitude he embodied throughout his life. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us, as we cherish the moments we had with such an extraordinary individual. Rest in peace, dear Verlyn. Your legacy lives on.
